The Valentine cupid shot Indian crowd in the late 1990s. To be very precise, when Hindi movie, Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) emerged. Previously, this day was lost in the western lands. Since then, things started changing and a notable revolution amongst youngsters erupted in India.
Love, they say, is blind but whatever it is, it has its own unexplainable stages and position. None can define love. India, on the other hand, is considered as the land of love and sentiments but where?
Indian system is crooked, everybody knows this. The filthy Babus and Netas suck our blood and some despicable organizations need a reason to harass the common man and to meet their selfish ends. They batter exactly then when we want to sail peacefully, with love.
One can find countless eyes staring when they spot young couple anywhere. Some pass lewd comments and engage themselves in fights. Moreover, recently, we have seen that various so-called parties or groups have taken lives of people in their hands. A couple of years ago, some cheap, hungry-for-fame group attacked girls in some pub in Bangalore and on this particular day, you can find many groups hunt lovers and harass them.
Yes, lovers face issues in many ways in India— caste system, religion, region, social, psychological, etc. One of the worst problems is that when the lovers are attacked by the bloody political parties. What do they have to do with it? Why the hell do they attack lovers who want to express their love? Is India still in the clutches of small-time dictators who rule regions and locations? Are we not free to do what we feel like?
Indian states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh have seen the ugly phase of political power recently when some so-called “Senas” targeted young couples and forced the girls to tie ‘Rakhi’ to the boys (“Rakhi” is tied in India by girls to their brothers so when a girl ties a Rakhi on boy’s hand, it means that their relationship as lovers is forbidden and they, religiously, become brother and sister). Wow, what a great way!
In Delhi, once a girl was chased by many men, who happened to be the friends of some politician’s son, and then the girl’s boyfriend was beaten viciously and the girl was gang-raped and after the atrocious event, one of the men said, “This is how you should celebrate your Valentine’s Day”. Guess what? The guys were set free after one week due to the political influence and they blamed the girl for “celebrating Valentine’s Day with her boyfriend and according them, it is wrong to roam around with some stranger before marriage and if she did, she had to face her fate by getting raped”. These were one of the very few incidents.
Now, the question is— who the hell these people are who do not want couples to live the way they want to? We often wonder why we live under restrictions; and are regions and religions or the cultural differences making us vulnerable and we often fall their prey? Is it that we have to go on living like this? Also, they say, “young couples misbehave in public”. Well, what do they mean by “misbehaving?” How can they define this term “misbehaving?” Do they even know what does this mean? What about spitting and urinating on roads, molesting women, exploiting kids, eating public’s hard-earned money, etc? Don’t their so-called true Indian culture burn inside and don’t they feel the desire to do something good? No, they will not because they were brought up like this, who have low-level mentality, which in turn run in their blood and make them do? Well, maybe but the truth could be something else.
Psychological Aspects:
a) Estranged Lovers: The men (or let’s say guys) who join these “Senas” might be the ones who are ditched by their girlfriends and therefore, to satiate their wounded ego, they spread terror. “When I couldn’t get, why the hell he should get?”
b) Inferiority Complex: It has been noted that the ones who are in such groups are ugly, poor, single (mostly), completely frustrated, jobless, victims of domestic violence, etc; who are filled with filth, and the resentment of not being with any girl often drives them to hunt down the ones who are happy and in love and make their lives distend.
c) Narcissist Tendency: When someone who faces issues or violence as a child or due to certain reasons, either becomes introvert or starts behaving, believing and showing that he has some ultimate power and becomes self-centered and preoccupies himself supremacy. He trains his mind (subconsciously) and makes others believe that he has some power and can do anything. He keeps praising about himself and thinks he is flawless.
d) Age Factor: They mull over their past, and regret that when they were young, they did not get the chance to be with the ones they loved or they were different and narrow-minded, and youngsters today are enjoying. Now when they are old, their mental state gets disturbed, which in turn makes them disrupt the harmony of the lovers.
e) Wrath: When an estranged lover is ditched by a girl, it is very hard for him to get over with it and therefore, he spends most of his time in trying to cope up with this situation and when some guys meet such groups, they get a great chance to pour their anger on other lovers.
f) Time and Money Factor: Jobless people or the ones who have extra time, often try their luck with such groups and with this they get a couple of hundreds or thousands.
g) Attention-Seeking Disorder—HPA or Histrionic Personality Disorder: To impress people around them or to make others agree with them, and to seek attention, they start harassment. The excessive need of approval often leads to such issues.
The above are some of the psychological aspects which might drive these people to commit crimes against the lovers and to create problems for lovers, especially on Valentine’s Day. Well, if you love someone, truly or deeply, then be brave to fight back. It is not about fighting physically but to make the government understand the importance of FREEDOM which people do not get. You have every right to celebrate the way you want, you can do anything any day, any time and these filthy cheapsters do not have any right to implement their spitty reasons on you. It is not written in any religious book or anywhere in the world that you should not be happy, you should not feel good, and you should not express your love.
“I fly with colors bright,
And search for lone hearts;
In windy and starry night,
Where stars play myriad parts—
Fairies swing in eternal heavens,
Goblets ride through daisies;
And they sing, the merry ravens
Through the moor, as they please…
Alas! Vindictive hunters hunt their abode,
And ravage their peace and arson their hearts,
Lovers fall, their hearts burn on that lonely road
Their emotions tattered in a million pieces and parts;
With my trembling hands, I hold my bow and arrow,
They yelled and pelted stones, wanted me to leave;
I couldn’t strike— Alas! What a sorrow!
This land is full of filth and misery where lovers grieve!
